Roleplay Recap: The Fracture

The Council’s efforts to stop the Green Mist continued as Lord President Chronotis brought out the data cylinder recovered from the memory chamber. Its contents included the blueprints for the Chronal Resonator, along with a list of the components needed to construct it. With a plan in hand, the group made their way to the repair bay to search for three Artron Flux Regulators and an Achronal Convergence Core. Lord Serpentine, Lord Darkfyre, Lord Winters, Lord Wilde, Lady Roxy, and Professor Maltheus all joined the search, examining crystals, salvaged equipment, and various pieces of technology in an attempt to identify the correct parts. There was some uncertainty over which items were useful, and Lord Serpentine even put a few possibilities through a rather questionable inspection, but eventually the necessary components were located. Lord President Chronotis identified one of the crystals as a regulator, while Lord Winters and the others helped locate the remaining pieces. Lord Conundrum was entrusted with the blueprints and soon set to work assembling the device. After a little theatrical flair and a great deal of confidence, he transformed the collection of parts into a completed Chronal Resonator.

With the Resonator built, the Council carried it back to the chamber containing the Temporal Anchor. Lord Conundrum set the device down, and Lord President Chronotis reviewed the instructions to determine how best to connect the two systems. Professor Maltheus was asked to inspect Lord Conundrum’s work, tracing the circuits and checking the component placement. Unfortunately, his inspection revealed that although the parts appeared to fit, the energy readings were fluctuating wildly. Lord Serpentine noticed a loose connection, and Lord Conundrum made adjustments to the device before the group continued. The discussion of whether the Resonator was ready brought a healthy amount of uncertainty, particularly when Lord Serpentine took charge of attaching the wiring. Despite some questionable modifications and the smell of overheated wiring, the connections were completed, and the group prepared to activate the system. Lord Darkfyre watched with understandable concern, while Lord Winters questioned whether they were truly sure about what they were about to do. Lord Serpentine admitted that certainty was hardly guaranteed, but the Council had little choice but to proceed.

Following the blueprints, Lord President Chronotis explained that those who had recovered memories from the previous session needed to place their hands on the central interface. The device responded as each person made contact, registering the memories as distinct temporal signatures. Lord Conundrum, Lord Serpentine, Lord Darkfyre, Lord Winters, and Professor Maltheus connected with the interface, allowing their recovered memories to be loaded into the Resonator. The crystals glowed brighter as the machine hummed to life, and the process appeared to succeed. Lord President Chronotis then moved to the control panels, explaining that the memories had to be transferred into the Temporal Anchor and directed toward the Mist. Lady Roxy questioned how they would know where to aim, while Professor Maltheus raised the concern that the Mist might follow the connection back to their location. Lord Winters reminded them of the fracture, the weakness revealed in his earlier memory, and the group began preparing for the next stage.

Lord President Chronotis assigned everyone a role to ensure the operation remained coordinated. He would manage the Resonator and Anchor, while Lady Roxy monitored the group and intervened if anyone was in danger. Lord Serpentine was tasked with maintaining the connection to the consumed world, Professor Maltheus with keeping the temporal alignment stable, and Lord Conundrum with maintaining the Anchor’s hold on the Mist. Lord Darkfyre was to monitor the Resonator and respond to any instability, while Lord Winters would use his knowledge of the fracture to guide the operation. Lord Wilde was assigned to watch the energy output and ensure the memories passed through intact. With their positions established, the group began the process. Lord Serpentine concentrated on the memories of the long-dead green world, while Lord Darkfyre focused on the Resonator and Lord Conundrum monitored the Anchor. Professor Maltheus watched the temporal readings, Lord President Chronotis kept the systems synchronized, and Lady Roxy moved among the group, offering reassurance and making sure everyone was holding steady.

As the memories flowed into the system, the screens began displaying fragments of the consumed world. Lord Serpentine saw children playing by a brook, people attending events, and moments of ordinary life before the green Mist arrived and everything disappeared. The memories grew more intense, showing countless people facing the horror of erasure, their fear and desperation overwhelming the connection. Lord Serpentine cried out in pain as the memories pressed against him, while Lord Winters gritted his teeth and intensified his focus. Lady Roxy continued monitoring everyone, encouraging them to breathe and remain calm. Lord Wilde observed that the Mist was reacting, and Lord President Chronotis watched the readings as the images changed. The fracture began to grow, but the system was under increasing strain. Professor Maltheus detected a drift in temporal stability and compensated for it, while Lord Conundrum adjusted the controls to maintain the Anchor’s hold. When Lord Serpentine briefly broke contact after becoming overwhelmed by what he was experiencing, Lord President Chronotis called him back to the interface, and Lady Roxy reassured him that they were close. Lord Serpentine returned to his position, renewing the connection just as the pressure on the system intensified.

The final moments were tense as the fracture continued to widen and the Resonator approached its limits. Lord Winters endured the increasing strain, Lord Darkfyre remained focused on stabilizing the device, and Lord Wilde continued working the controls to keep the memories flowing. Lord Serpentine resisted the strange mental distractions pulling at him, determined that the Council had already come too far to stop now. Seeing the readings nearing critical levels, Lord President Chronotis moved a lever to shut down part of the system at the right moment. Lady Roxy watched the monitor as the fracture finally enveloped the Mist, her voice cracking with relief as she announced that they had done it. Lord Wilde confirmed that the Mist was gone, and Lord Serpentine felt the pain subside as he opened his eyes and realized the ordeal was over. Lord President Chronotis checked the readings and confirmed that the Mist had been sealed within the fracture, just as those who had attempted this centuries earlier had intended. Professor Maltheus looked around in disbelief, asking whether the fracture had truly closed, and Lord Conundrum wondered aloud whether this meant they had surpassed their ancestors. The Council had succeeded where the previous attempt had failed, ending the threat that had consumed worlds and erased their histories.

With the immediate danger over, Lord Darkfyre offered to monitor the chamber remotely and proposed sending a probe to investigate the space where the Mist had been. Professor Maltheus suggested sealing the chamber to prevent anyone from accidentally uncovering another horror from the Dark Times, and Lady Roxy agreed that caution was needed. She also wondered what had become of Theron, a question that remained unanswered. Lord Conundrum offered little reassurance, while Lord President Chronotis admitted that Theron might yet turn up. The group agreed that sending a drone was safer than risking one of their own, and Lord Darkfyre volunteered to launch the probe. Lord Wilde departed for the Archives to record the Council’s success, ensuring that their victory would be preserved in history. As the others began to leave, Lord Winters decided that a drink and a burrito were well overdue, while Lady Roxy shared his sentiment with a chuckle. The operation had been exhausting, dangerous, and at times rather chaotic, but the Green Mist was finally gone. For now, the universe was safe, and the Council could take a moment to breathe, knowing they had faced a threat that had once defeated those who came before them.
